Single Mothers is arguably the most popular band to originate from London Ontario. The band formed in 2008, released their debut record in 2014 and has only picked up momentum since.
The band writes songs that skewer hypocrites and people they view as overly pretentious. The lyrics are often snarky, a quality that the lead singer, Drew Thompson, attributes to living in a University Town
“I used to rent houses to university kids before I did prospecting, so I immersed myself in that student culture. And as much as I love that culture, there’s a lot to hate about it when you’re a local in the city. You just feel shitty about being a townie in a place that you shouldn’t be a townie. “
